The short answer
The best Wyndo alternative depends on what you're missing. RunWeather puts a run score and best window in a phone app, Racecast and MeteoPace cover more races, including London, and Route Forecast times the weather along a route file. RunFast's free Map your run adds heat stress for every kilometre of your own route at your pace.
Key takeaways
- Wyndo is free, cites its research and draws race history from ERA5, as of October 2026.
- Its race history stops at the start line, and it has no London or Comrades page.
- For a phone app, try RunWeather; for more races, Racecast or MeteoPace.
- For your own route, Route Forecast is free; Map your run adds heat stress per kilometre.

Words this guide uses
- Pace-timed forecast
- The weather for each stretch of your route at the time you'll run it, worked out from your start time and pace.
- Start-line history
- Past weather at a race's start at the start hour, without the hours and places you run through after it.
What is Wyndo good at, and who should keep using it?
Wyndo is a free, honest weather call for a run, and for many runners it's enough. Before you look for a Wyndo alternative, know what it does well. It's one of the race-aware tools in our comparison of the best running weather apps.
As of October 2026, Wyndo:
- tells you to go now, leave later, wait or avoid, for a run, ride or dog walk, with the weather behind the call;
- checks heat index, air quality, sustained wind and gusts, rain across the run and UV;
- finds the best window for a 30-, 60- or 90-minute run, and emails you when one opens if you have a free account;
- shows start-hour temperature, dew point, wind and rain for more than 100 races, from ERA5 reanalysis, back to 2007 at Boston;
- offers a free heat-adjusted pace calculator that cites Ely (2007), El Helou (2012), Mantzios (2022) and Vihma (2010), and stops above a WBGT of about 28 °C (82 °F).
Its verdicts come from a rule-based engine, not a language model, its About page says. Keep using it if you run near home and want a quick, free go-or-wait answer.
Best forA free go-or-wait call and start-line race history
Strengths
- Go, wait or avoid verdicts with the weather behind them
- Start-hour race history from ERA5, back to 2007 at Boston
- Free heat pace calculator that cites its research
Limits
- Race history at the start line only
- No London or Comrades page
- No app found; Fahrenheit-first
Checked October 2026
Why look for a Wyndo alternative?
Four limits show up on Wyndo's own pages, as of October 2026.
- No route. It checks a place, not a GPX, FIT or TCX file, so it can't follow a point-to-point run or a hilly loop.
- The start line only. Race history is the start hour at the start line. It doesn't show what a 4- or 5-hour runner meets later.
- Gaps in the race list. London and Comrades have no page. "Your race" adds a forecast for any race in race week, but no history.
- Browser and Fahrenheit-first. We found no app, and race pages lead in °F.
How did we choose the alternatives?
Each had to fix at least one of those limits for runners. We compared them from their own sites and US App Store listings in October 2026; we did not test them. Map your run is ours.
Which Wyndo alternatives fit which need?
Five, matched to what Wyndo doesn't do. Prices are in US dollars.
RunWeather
The closest match in an app. It scores the weather 0 to 100 from temperature, dew point, wind, rain and UV, finds your best window and gives a "weather tax" pace target. It runs on iPhone and Android, imports from Strava, and shows race-morning outlooks weeks out.
Best forA 0–100 run score and best window in a phone app
Strengths
- Run Score from temperature, dew point, wind, rain and UV
- Best window and a weather pace target
- Strava import and race-morning outlooks
Limits
- Scores a place, not a route
- Extra saved locations and full history need Pro
Checked October 2026
Racecast
More races, and more history. Its London Marathon page draws on 26 years of data. Its free pace calculator adds hills and wind along the route where a course is mapped. See Racecast alternatives.
Best forForecasts and history for thousands of named races
Strengths
- London page draws on 26 years of data
- Free pace calculator with hills and wind for mapped courses
- Forecast alerts by text or email
Limits
- No planning from your own route file
- Comrades history draws on one year
- Heat folded into one 0–10 score
Checked October 2026
MeteoPace
A full race plan for supported races on several continents, London included, sent to a Garmin or COROS watch. Splits are paid. See MeteoPace alternatives.
Best forA detailed split-by-split plan for a supported race
Strengths
- Supported races on several continents, London included
- Weather, hills and history in one adjusted pace
- Sends race plans to Garmin or COROS
Limits
- Splits need Race Pass or Pro
- Supported races only; others by request

Route Forecast
Free weather along your own route file, with a run mode. You set a speed rather than a pace, and it's built for cyclists first. So is the app in our guide to Epic Ride Weather for running.
Best forFree wind, rain and feels like along any route file
Strengths
- GPX, FIT and TCX files, plus Strava and Ride with GPS routes
- Weather timed to your start time and speed
- A run mode, with hills adjusting your speed
Limits
- Speed, not min:sec pace
- Built for cyclists first
- Dew point and heat stress not described

Map your run (RunFast)
Our free browser tool for any route at your own pace. Drop in a GPX, FIT or TCX file, or open Comrades, Berlin, London or Boston, then set the day, start time and pace, such as 5:41 per km (9:09 per mile). You get a pace-timed forecast: the weather for each stretch at the time you'll run it, with feels like, dew point and WBGT heat-stress level for every kilometre.
Best forAny route at your own pace, the heat timed to every kilometre
Strengths
- Your own GPX, FIT or TCX route, or four big races
- Feels like, dew point and WBGT heat stress for every kilometre at your pace
- A map, a km-by-km table, a share image and a 3D flyover
Limits
- Forecasts reach 10 days ahead
- Race-day history for four races so far
- No phone app yet: the apps are coming

What does the start line miss on a warm race day?
Most of the race. The start hour is often the coolest part of a spring marathon, and slower runners stay out longest.
Wyndo's Boston page gives the 2024 start as 58 °F, with a dew point of 48 °F and a day's high of 70 °F. RunFast's ERA5 data agrees at the start: 14.9 °C (59 °F). Along the course, timed to each finish, it shows more (reanalysis, not a thermometer at the start line):
| Finish time | Warmest air, °C (°F) | Hottest feels like, °C (°F) | Peak WBGT, °C (°F) | Moderate heat stress from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3:00 | 20.6 (69) | 26.6 (80) | 19.7 (67) | km 6 (mile 3.7) |
| 4:00 | 21.2 (70) | 28.4 (83) | 19.7 (67) | km 4 (mile 2.5) |
| 5:00 | 21.4 (71) | 28.0 (82) | 19.7 (67) | km 4 (mile 2.5) |
The feels like includes the April sun, which a shade reading leaves out. Official race flags and medical advice override any app; the American College of Sports Medicine (2007) sets out the heat-illness risks.
Which Wyndo alternative should you pick?
Pick by the limit you hit:
- A quick, free go-or-wait call near home: stay with Wyndo.
- The same idea in a phone app: RunWeather.
- London or another race Wyndo doesn't list: Racecast or MeteoPace.
- Weather along your own route file, free: Route Forecast.
- Heat stress at your pace for every kilometre of your route or race: Map your run.

Questions runners ask
Is Wyndo free?
Yes, as of October 2026. Wyndo's verdicts, race pages and heat-adjusted pace calculator are free, and many checks need no account. A free account adds emails when a good run window opens, and race-week briefs for a race you follow. We found no paid tier or price on its site. It's built and run by a solo founder.
Does Wyndo have an iPhone or Android app?
Not that we found. As of October 2026, Wyndo runs in a web browser, and a search of the US App Store showed no app under its name. You can save it to your home screen like any website. If you want a native running weather app with widgets, RunWeather is on iPhone and Android.
Where does Wyndo's race weather history come from?
From ERA5, the Copernicus reanalysis of past weather. Wyndo's race pages say each row is the weather at the race's usual calendar slot and start hour, at the start line, as of October 2026. Its Boston page covers 2007 to 2026. Its live verdicts draw on Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap and the US National Weather Service.
Does Wyndo cover the London Marathon or Comrades?
Not as of October 2026: its race index lists more than 100 races, including Boston, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Sydney, but not London or Comrades. Its "Your race" page gives a race-week forecast for any race, without history. Racecast and MeteoPace have London pages, and Map your run shows both races from 2015 to 2024.
Does Wyndo's heat pace calculator account for wind?
No. Wyndo's own page says version 1 doesn't model wind, heat acclimatisation, course shade or surface, or cold-weather slowing. It estimates WBGT with a simplified method and stops giving pace numbers above a WBGT of about 28 °C (82 °F), deferring to the race's heat flags. That honesty is a strength.
Can Wyndo check the weather along my own running route?
Not along a route file, as of October 2026. Wyndo's run planner checks a place for a 30-, 60- or 90-minute run, including rain across the run window. To follow a route, use a tool that reads GPX files: Route Forecast is free and has a run mode, and Map your run adds dew point and heat stress per kilometre.

We compared these tools from their own websites and US App Store listings, checked in October 2026; we did not install or test them, and make no accuracy claims. Prices are in US dollars, from the maker's page or the US App Store in-app purchase list, and exclude local taxes. A question mark in a card means the maker's pages don't say. Map your run is RunFast's own tool, described from what it does today. Wyndo's Boston 2024 start-hour figures are from its race page. The finish-time table comes from RunFast's race-history data: ERA5 hourly reanalysis (Copernicus Climate Change Service) along the course for the 15 April 2024 race, 10:00 start, with feels like by Steadman's apparent temperature with sun, WBGT by Liljegren et al. (2008), and levels graded Low below 18.3 °C, Moderate to 22.8 °C, High to 27.8 °C and Extreme above. Imperial values are our conversions.
