Why can’t I find a runner by name?

Updated

Only runners who turned on Findable by anyone for a race show up in a name search, and it’s off unless they choose it. Check you’ve typed at least 3 letters of the name they use on RunFast. If they haven’t chosen it, ask them for their follow link instead: it works either way.

What you’ll see

  • “Nobody by that name has chosen to be found.”
  • On a club race’s live map: “Nobody by that name is findable in this race.”
  • “Keep typing: three letters of their name, or paste their link.”

Check these

  1. At least 3 letters. Try their first name, or their surname, on its own.
  2. The name on their RunFast account. They may use a full name, or a different spelling, from the one you know.
  3. Findable by anyone is on. It’s off unless the runner switches it on, for each race, in the race’s live tracking. Many runners leave it off.
  4. Live tracking is on for their race. Findable only counts while it is.
  5. The right race. On a club race’s live map, only runners in that race show up. Try runfast.tech/follow, which searches everyone who’s findable.

Ask the runner for their follow link. It works whether they chose Findable by anyone or not, and in the app it can send you alerts when they start, reach halfway and finish. See following without an account.

Are you the runner?
