Following someone
Following a runner from their link or by name, with no account, what the live map shows, and the demo.
- Can I follow a runner without an account or the app?Yes. Open the link the runner sent you, runfast.tech/f/ and their code, in any browser on a phone or computer, and you see them live on the map straight away, with no account and nothing to install. The RunFast app on iPhone and Android follows without an account too, and can tell you when they start and finish.
- How do I find and follow a runner by name?Open runfast.tech/follow, or the Live tab in the RunFast app, and type at least 3 letters of their name. Runners who match appear as you type: tap Follow. Only runners who turned on Findable by anyone for their race show up. If they haven’t, ask them for their link instead.
- What does the live map show? Each runner you follow is their photo on the map, on a course coloured by how hard the weather makes each stretch. Their card shows how far they’ve run, their pace, when they’ll finish, the heat where they are, and how far ahead or behind their goal they are. A status line says when they were last seen.
- Can I get alerts when a runner starts, reaches halfway and finishes?Yes, in the RunFast app on iPhone or Android. Follow a runner from their link and tap Turn on alerts: the app tells you when they start, reach halfway and finish, with their finish time. You don’t need an account. runfast.tech doesn’t send alerts: keep the runner’s page open instead.
- How many runners can I follow at once?Up to 20, on the web and in the RunFast app. They all show on one live map, even when they’re in different races at the same time. At 20, open a runner you follow and choose Stop following before you add someone new.
- What is a tap on the back? While you follow a runner who’s live, tap “Give them a tap on the back”. Their phone buzzes and sparkles, and they see how many taps they’ve had. Sign up, and they see it was you. Race maps on the web show the race’s total.
- Can I see how following someone live looks?Yes. Open runfast.tech/f/demo in any browser, or choose See the demo at Comrades in the RunFast app. A demo runner is always mid-race, with a field of other demo runners, so you can see the live map, the cards, the goal’s ghost and the heat, any day of the year.
