How do I set a goal time, and what is the ghost?
Updated
Add Your goal time when you add or edit a race, or in Your goal and live tracking for a club race. Your pace follows it. With live tracking on, followers see your goal before the gun, your goal as a ghost on the course during the race, and how far ahead or behind it you are.
Set it
- Your own race: Your goal time in the race’s form, when you add it or from Edit. See adding a race.
- A club race you’re in: tap ⋯ on its card in Runs and choose Your goal and live tracking. See club races.
Type hours and minutes, such as 3:45 or 0:52. It’s optional.
Next to it, In your own words takes up to 60 characters, such as “Going for a sub-4”. It goes on your share picture and your follow page.
Your pace follows it
Your pace for the race becomes your goal time divided by the distance, rounded to 5 seconds. RunFast then times the weather from the gun at that pace, slower on the climbs and quicker on the descents. See setting your pace.
What followers see
With Live tracking on (see turning on live tracking):
- Before the gun: your goal, your words and a countdown to the start.
- During the race: your goal as a ghost on the course: a faint marker where a runner at exactly your goal time would be now. It’s timed for the hills, like your own plan. Your card says how you’re doing, such as “4 min ahead of goal” or “1 min behind goal”.
- At the finish: your time against your goal.
The ghost only shows when you’ve set a goal. Near your start and finish, it isn’t drawn on the map, for your privacy, but how far ahead or behind you are still shows.
In Past
The day after the race, its card in Past shows Finished in your time, with your goal beside it, if you went live and finished. See Past.
No goal?
Leave it empty. Followers still see where you are, your pace and your projected finish, without a ghost.
