How do I follow a runner live in ChatGPT or Claude?

Updated

With the livedot connector in ChatGPT or Claude, ask “Where’s Megan in the Comrades?” or paste their livedot link. You get where they are, their pace, how they’re doing against their goal, the heat where they are and on the road ahead, their finish time, and a Follow live link.

Ask where they are

Add the livedot connector first: it takes a minute. See using RunFast in ChatGPT and Claude.

Then ask, any of these ways:

  • By name and race: “Where’s Megan in the Comrades?”
  • By their livedot link: “Where’s livedot.me/megan?” or “@megan”
  • By their follow link: paste the runfast.tech/f/… link they sent you.

A link points to one person, so there’s no mix-up. A name finds people who switched on Findable by anyone for a public race.

What you get

The answer, and a live map in the chat with their dot on the course:

  • where they are, such as “km 58 (mile 36) of 90 km”;
  • their goal, such as “18 minutes behind the goal (9:00:00)”, if they set one;
  • their pace right now;
  • the heat where they are, with its rating and heat stress, such as “31°C (88°F), rated very hard (heat stress Extreme)”;
  • the road ahead: the heat and wind over the next few kilometres, and how much the weather is likely to cost them;
  • their finish time at this pace, in race time;
  • Follow live, to open their live page in a browser.

Ask again any time for a fresh answer. The map in the chat is a snapshot; the live page keeps moving by itself. See what the live map shows.

When there are several Megans

The assistant never guesses. If several runners match, it lists the most likely ones, with how far each one has run and their pace, and a search box in the chat, and asks you one short question, such as their surname or initial. Tap the right one, or answer, and it shows that runner.

Their livedot link avoids the question altogether: ask them for it before race day. See your livedot link.

When it can’t say where they are

It shares a position only when the live page does. It says plainly when it can’t, for example:

  • they haven’t started yet: it gives the start time;
  • they’ve finished: it gives their time, and how it compares with their goal;
  • they’re paused, stopped, or near the start or finish, where positions stay hidden for privacy;
  • they haven’t chosen to be findable, or aren’t racing right now.

The race as a whole

Ask “How’s the Comrades going?” for the race itself: how long it’s been under way, how many runners are on the map, how many have finished and who’s out front. It works for races that are live on RunFast now.

Try it now

The Comrades demo runs every day, with Megan mid-race in a field of demo runners. Ask “Where’s Megan in the Comrades demo?” to see the full answer before race day. See the live demo.
