Which route files work, and why won’t my GPX go in?

Updated

RunFast takes GPX, FIT and TCX files, from Garmin, Coros, Komoot, Strava or your race’s website, for routes longer than 300 m and up to 250 km. If a file won’t go in, RunFast says why: export the route again, or split a very long one into shorter runs.

The files that work

  • GPX, FIT and TCX files, with a route or a recorded run in them.
  • From Garmin Connect, Coros, Komoot, Strava or anywhere else that exports one.
  • From your race: most organisers put the course on their website as a GPX file, or send it to entrants. Drop that in for your race.
  • Routes longer than 300 m (about 1,000 ft) and up to 250 km (155 miles).

Drop the file onto the box, or tap the box to choose it, on the web at runfast.tech/app or Map your run, and in the iPhone and Android apps.

If it won’t go in

Message What to do
“That file has no route in it.” Export the route as a GPX, FIT or TCX file and try again.
“That route is too short to save.” Routes need to be longer than 300 m (about 1,000 ft).
“RunFast saves routes up to 250 km.” Split it into shorter runs.
“That file couldn’t be read.” Export the route again and drop in the new file.

Getting a file

  • From a route app or watch app: look for an export or download option on the route or activity, and choose GPX.
  • From Strava: no file needed. Connect Strava and bring the route or run in directly. See connecting Strava.
  • On a phone: save the file to Files (iPhone) or Downloads (Android) first, then choose it from there.

What happens to the file

In Map your run, the file is read in your browser and isn’t kept unless you save the run or ask for its forecast by email. When you save a run or a race, RunFast keeps its route so it can work out the weather each time. See what RunFast keeps.
